30.12.2013 Hurghada

Da ich heute Morgen schon vor 9 Uhr wach war und mir draussen ein wunderschöner Tag entgegen blinzelte, nahm ich die Gelegenheit beim Schopf um startete ihn mit Joggen und Schwimmen im Meer... einfach nur fantastisch! : )

Danach ging ich ausgiebig frühstücken bis ich fast zerplatzte! Da ich heute einen ruhigen Tag am Strand und im Hotel geplant hatte, blieb mir ja genügend Zeit zum Verdauen... und genau so war es! Ich genoss die warme Sonne am Strand und da es seit gestern bedeutend kühler war (5 Grad) räumte ich um 15 Uhr meinen Liegestuhl und relaxte im Dampfbad und in der Sauna weiter...

Since I awake this morning before 9 am and outside a beautiful day blinked at me, I embraced the opportunity and started the day with jogging and swimming in the sea... just fantastic! : )

Thereafter I went for an extensive breakfast until I almost burst! But as I had planned a quiet day at the beach and in the hotel today, there was enough time to digest... and so it was! I enjoyed the warm sun on the beach and because it was significantly cooler since yesterday (5 centigrades) I cleaned my deck chair at 3 pm and continued to relax in the steam bath and the sauna...

Dream Beach, Hurghada

Um 20 Uhr traf ich Ahmed vor dem Hotel und wir gingen zum Apero nebenan ins Dream Beach, wo wir neulich einen exzellenten Service inclusive Abendessen genossen hatten und wo er mich heute zu einer Flasche Wein einlud... Er klagte über Muskelkater, die ihn die Wanderung zur Höhle des Heiligen Antonius bescherte... ich war topfit und sogar joggen heute Morgen! ; )

At 8 pm I met Ahmed in front of the hotel and we went for an appetizer next door to Dream Beach where we had recently enjoyed an excellent service including dinner and where today he invited me to a bottle of wine ... He complained of soreness, which gave him the hike to the cave of Saint Anthony yesterday... I was in top shape and even went for a run this morning ! ; )

Das Abendessen nahm ich in meinem Lieblingsrestaurant im Tuscony des Hotels ein, heute wählte ich eine Riesencrevettenvorspeise und als Hauptspeise eine gegrillte Seebrasse mit Gemüse - hhhmmmmm! : )

Dinner I took in my favorite restaurant, the Tuscony of the hotel, today I chose a an appetizer of king prawns as a main dish a grilled sea bream with vegetables - hhhmmmmm ! : )

29.12.2013 Hurghada - Zafarana - Hurghada

Heute Morgen stand ich bereits um 6:30 Uhr auf, denn ich hatte mit Ahmed abgemacht zum Antoniuskloster, 250 km Richtung Norden, zu fahren. Ich packte meine Tasche für den Tag und genoss auf der Terrasse noch einen doppelten Espresso und einen frischen Orangensaft...

This morning I got up already at 6:30 am, because I had agreed with Ahmed upon to drive to the Anthony monastery, 250 km direction north. I packed my bag for the day and enjoyed a double espresso and a fresh orange juice on the terrace...

Ahmed stand wie immer pünktlich vor dem Hotel bereit und kurz vor 8 Uhr fuhren wir los. Die Strecke nördlich von Hurghada ist vom Öl beherrscht, so wird man von Pipelines sowie Ölplattformen im Meer begleitet… und in den Dörfer wie auch in der Stadt Ras Gharib 150 km nördlich von Hurghada leben die Leute von Öl. Hier kostet der Liter Benzin übrigens EUR 0.20.

As always Ahmed was ready in front of the hotel and shortly before 8 am we hit the road. The route north of Hurghada is dominated by the oil, so pipelines and oil platforms in the sea is what you can see here... and in the villages and the city of Ras Gharib 150 km north of Hurghada people live on oil. Here the liter of gasoline costs USD 0.20.

3 Stunden später erreichten wir das Antoniuskloster fast alles entlang dem Roten Meer auf der einen Seite und die endlose westarabische Wüste auf der andern. Dort begrüsste uns Bruder Ruwais Antony, der uns eine liebevolle Führung gab. Danach sind Ahmed und ich noch die restlichen 500 Stufen hinaufgestiegen bis zur Höhle, wo der heilige Antonius bis 356 lebte - die Strapazen wurden zusätzlich mit einem grandiosen Panorama belohnt!

3 hours later we reached the Anthony Monaster, almost all along the Red Sea on one side and on the other the endless western Arabian desert. There we were welcomed by brother Ruwais Antony, who gave us a loving tour. Thereafter Ahmed and I climbed up the remaining 500 steps to the cave where St. Anthony lived unti 356 - the efforts were also rewarded with a magnificent view!

Auf dem Hin- wie Rückweg haben wir jemanden ein Stück mitgenommen, ein Mitfahrer war ein Polizist! : ) Auf dem Rückweg Richtung Hurghada statteten wir dem Pauluskloster aus dem 6. Jahrhundert einen kurzen Besuch ab, das am Fuss einer hohen Felswand liegt.

On both ways we took somebody a piece with us, one passenger was a policeman! : ) On the way back towards Hurghada, we paid a short visit to the Paul monastery of the 6th century, located at the foot of a high cliff.

Marina, El Gouna

Danach raste Ahmed sicher und souverän zurück... 25 km vor Hurghada bogen wir nach El Gouna ab und machten einen Infohalt am Golfplatz. Danach schlenderten wir durch die Marina, wo eine Luxusjachten neben der andern vor Anker lag... Da uns langsam der Hunger plagte, machten wir uns auf die Suche nach einem einladenden Restaurant, das wir im Moods in der Marina fanden. Wir bestellten Fisch einmal anders, und zwar Curry und eine Tagine - um ganz ehrlich zu sein, war das sicher nicht das bester aber das touristischste Essen...

Then Ahmed raced safely and confidently back... 25 km before Hurghada we turned off to El Gouna and made a information stop at the golf course. Then we strolled through the Marina, where one luxury yacht was moored next to the other... As we slowly started to feel hungry, we went in search of the restaurant which we found in the Moods at the marina. We ordered fish in another way, namely curry and a tagine - to be quite honest, it was certainly not the best but the most touristy food...

28.12.2013 Hurghada - Giftun - Hurghada

Heute Morgen ging der Wecker um 7:30 Uhr und eine halbe Stunde später sass ich schon draussen auf der Terrasse beim Frühstück, das sich so früh am Morgen auf 2 doppelte Espressi, Tee, frische Säfte und Früchte beschränkte. Ein windstiller strahlenblauer Tag kündigte sich an, ideal um auf See zu fahren...

Da sich die Marina gleich nebenan im alten Sheraton (das erst Hotel Hurghadas, jetzt eine Ruine) befindet entschied ich mich zu Fuss hinzugehen anstatt auf den Transport zu warten. dort wurde ich schon von Mohammed erwartet, der im Hotel beim Limusinenservice arbeitet von dem ich am Flughafen abgeholt wurde. Er hatte heute seinen freien Tag, den er ebenfalls auf See verbringen wollte.

This morning the alarm clock went off at 7:30 clock and half an hour later I already sat at breakfast outside on the terrace. This early breakfast was limited to two double espressos, tea, fresh juices and fruits... A windless and iron blue day announced itself, ideal to make for deep water...

Since the Marina was next door at the old Sheraton (the first hotel in Hurghada, now a ruin), I decided to walk there instead of waiting for the transport. There I was already expected by Mohammed, who works at the hotel with limousine service by which I was picked up at the airport. He had his day off today and wanted to spend it at sea as well.

Wir machten es uns gemütlich auf dem Bug des Bootes und pünktlich um 9 Uhr liefen wir aus. Das Wetter war einfach nur perfekt, und die Stimmung auch! : ) Und die Unterwasserwelt ist so vielfältig, dass sie mich jedes Mal wieder überwältigt wenn ich hier am Roten Meer bin! Wir stoppten an 2 atemberaubenden Riffs, eines beschnorchelte ich und das andere nahm ich als Fotomotiv... Übrigens, nun glaube ich doch dass die Wassertemperatur 25 Grad beträgt! : ))

We made ourselves comfortable on the bow of the boat and on time at 9 at we left the harbour. The weather was just perfect, and the atmosphere too! : ) And the underwater world is so diverse that every time I am here I am overwhelmed! We stopped at 2 stunning riffs, the first one I went snorkeling and the second I took as a photo subject... By the way, now I do believe that the water temperature is 25 centigrade! : ))

Zurück im Hotel ging ich eine Stunde joggen und schwimmen im Roten Meer... einfach nur genial bei diesen milden Temperaturen! Um 19:30 Uhr holte mich Ahmed ab und wir gingen nebenan ins Elysees Hotel, wo wir ein herrliches Geburtstagsessen (Ahmed wurde heute 31) feierten…

Back at the hotel I went jogging and thereafter swimming in the Red Sea for an hour... just awesome at these mild temperatures! At 7:30 pm Ahmed picked me up and we went next door to the Elysees Hotel, where we celebrated a wonderful birthday dinner (Ahmed turned 31 today)...
